“The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.” -Malcolm X
What efforts are you making to claim the future? Are you just living for the now? Being content with the present? The thing I can appreciate about our ancestors for whom we celebrate Black History Month is they thought about the future. They had upcoming generations in mind and spent their today preparing for us a better tomorrow. And for that they deserve the utmost respect. Others might not think much of these historical figures whose stories are hidden away in forgotten books that collect dust on the shelf; but the admiration I have for them will forever be alive.
In this day and age, it’s our turn to claim the future by preparing for it today. What story or accomplishment will our kids be talking about when our today has passed? What foundation are we laying for their tomorrow?
